This senior employee that I am talking about is not even in my department but in everything she visits, she makes a point to say something that puts me or my team down. I have already spoken to my manager about it but he says there is nothing he can do because she is a "valuable employee." I am starting to get really frustrated and I don't know how much longer I can take it. Do you have any advice?
Wow. That woman must be really something. It sounds like you've already tried speaking to your manager about the situation but he's not doing anything to help. In this case, you may need to take matters into your own hands. The next time she says something that puts you or your team down, try to stand up for yourself. calmly and assertively explain why her comments are hurtful and why you don't deserve to be treated this way. If she doesn't listen or tries to gaslight you, walk away and continue working on your own projects. It's also important to document everything that she says in case you need to speak to HR about the situation. I hope this all works out for you.
