HomeFriends Relationship QuestionsWhat do I do if my friend is always trying to one-up me?

I have a friend who is always trying to one-up me. If I tell her about my new car, she'll tell me about the new house she just bought. If I tell her about my new job, she'll tell me about the raise she just got. It's really starting to get on my nerves.

It sounds like your friend might be competitive, which can be tough to deal with. I think you could try to set some boundaries with her. When she starts one-upping you, you could say something like, "I'm really happy for you, but I don't need to hear the details right now." If she doesn't seem to be backing off, you could try distancing yourself from her a bit. Let her know that you need some space and see how she reacts.
