Traveling overseas for work has been a part of my life since I started working 10 years ago. It was hard in the beginning to be away from home and my then-boyfriend for long stretches of time. We made it work though by communicating often, making plans for when I was back, and sending each other little gifts. But as time went on, it got harder and harder to stay connected. The last time I was away, we barely talked and when we did, it was just to argue. I don't want that to happen again but I don't know how to prevent it.
There are a few things you can do to stay connected to your partner when you're in a long-distance relationship. First, make sure you're communicating often. Talk about your day, what you're doing, how you're feeling, etc. Second, make plans for when you'll be able to see each other again. This will give you something to look forward to and help you feel more connected.
Finally, send each other little gifts or do something special for each other to let them know you're thinking of them. If you do all of these things, you should be able to stay connected to your partner even when you're far apart.
