So the company that I've been working for is having a trip to Hawaii next month. I am excited and nervous at the same time because I don't know what the protocol is for bringing a guest. Can I bring my significant other even if it's not an all-expenses-paid trip?

Generally speaking, you should only bring a guest on a business trip if it is expressly allowed or if your company is paying for their travel expenses. If neither of those things is the case, then it's probably best to just go by yourself.
Of course, you can always ask your boss or HR if you're unsure. They should be able to give you a definitive answer on whether or not you can bring a guest on your business trip.
