Mary is my best friend and I love her dearly, but she can be quite pushy when it comes to spending time together. If I don't answer her calls or texts right away, she gets upset and will keep bugging me until I respond. I've tried telling her that I need some space but she doesn't seem to understand. Look, I am an introvert and I appreciate giving myself some time. But with Mary, it feels like she doesn't want to take no for an answer.
If you've already tried communicating with your friend and they're not respecting your wishes, then it might be time to set some boundaries. Let them know in no uncertain terms that you need some space and if they can't respect that, then you might have to distance yourself from them. It's important to be firm in your resolve and not give in, even if they try to guilt trip you. Remember, you have a right to say no and you don't owe anyone an explanation. Just because they're your friend doesn't mean they get to control your life.
