My partner and I have been together for two years. We met in college and started dating long-distance when he moved away for work. Recently, his grandfather passed away and he's really struggling. He's feeling really alone and helpless since he's so far away from home. I want to be there for him but I don't know how to comfort him from a distance.
The best way to comfort your long-distance partner during his/her loss is to be there for them in any way you can. First, make sure you're communicating often. This will let them know that you're there for them and they can talk to you about anything they're feeling. Second, try to do something special for them. This can be anything from sending a care package to planning a video call where you can both talk and see each other.
Finally, be patient and understanding. They may not be ready to talk about their feelings right away but they will eventually. Just let them know that you're there for them when they're ready.
