HomeLong Distance Relationship QuestionsHow to break up with my long-distance partner?
Rila Thomas Staff asked 2 months ago

Roy and I have been together for four years. We met in college and started dating long-distance when he moved away for work. Recently, I've been feeling really suffocated by the relationship. I'm not sure if it's because we're always talking through text or if I'm just not ready for a long-term relationship. Either way, I think it's time to end things. I'm not sure how to go about it though since we're so far away from each other.

Breaking up with a long-distance partner can be really tough but there are a few things you can do to make it easier. What I suggest is that you must have an honest conversation with them. Explain your reasons for wanting to break up and give them a chance to talk about their feelings.

Once you've both had a chance to talk, agree on a time to end things. This can be done over the phone or through video calls. Finally, make sure you're both on the same page about what will happen after the breakup. Will you still be friends? Will you delete each other from social media? Decide on these things ahead of time to avoid any confusion or hurt feelings later on.
