HomeLong Distance Relationship QuestionsHow to ask for space in a long-distance relationship?
Rila Thomas Staff asked 2 months ago

Justin was my best friend before we even became lovers. He moved to Arkansas and that's when I realized I was developing feelings for him. We talked every day for hours and I loved it but lately, I've been feeling really suffocated. I need some time to myself but I don't want to hurt his feelings. How can I ask for space in a long-distance relationship?

The best way to ask for space in a long-distance relationship is to have an honest conversation with your partner. Explain that you're feeling overwhelmed and that you need some time to yourself. Let them know that it's nothing personal and you still care about them. Once you've had this conversation, agree on a plan.

This can be anything from taking a break from talking for a week to only talking on certain days of the week. Whatever you decide, make sure you both stick to it. This will give you the space you need while still maintaining your relationship.
