HomeSelf Relationship QuestionsHow do I tell people that I need to be away from social media for my mental health?
Roy Murray asked 2 months ago

Social media is fun and all but lately, I have been immersed in it and I'm feeling really drained. I know that I need to take a break but I don't know how to tell my friends and family.

The first step is to explain your decision to yourself. Why do you want to take a break from social media? What are your goals for this break? Once you have a clear understanding of your motivations, it will be easier to communicate them to others.

When you're ready to have the conversation, start by being honest and direct. Explain that you're feeling overwhelmed and need some time away from social media. Let them know that you're not doing this to be anti-social - you're just taking some time for yourself. Assure them that you'll still be available for socializing in person or via other means of communication.

If possible, give them a timeline for your break. Let them know when you'll be back online and how to get in touch with you during your hiatus. This will help to ease any concerns they may have about your disappearance.

Just remember that you're doing this for yourself and stick to your guns.
