Lyda is my boss and she's great. But lately, she's been giving me more and more work to do and it's starting to feel like too much. I don't want to seem unprofessional or like I can't handle the work, but I also don't want to be overwhelmed. How can I tell Lyda that I only have so much capacity without seeming like I'm not committed to my job?
When you have to tell your boss that you can't do any more work, it is important to be respectful and understanding. First, sit down with them and explain the situation. Thank them for the opportunity to work with them and let them know that you appreciate all they have done for you. Next, explain why you can't do any more work, and be sure to emphasize that it is nothing personal. Finally, offer to help with the transition and thank them again for their understanding.
