HomeSelf Relationship QuestionsHow do I stop this panic attack?
Roy Murray asked 1 month ago

When I was in college, I had my first panic attack during a final exam. It was so overwhelming and scary that I've been avoiding situations that might trigger one ever since. Now, 10 years later, I still haven't been able to shake the fear. How do I stop this panic attack?

There are a few things you can do to stop a panic attack once it starts. First, try to stay calm and breathe slowly. This will help you avoid hyperventilating, which can make the symptoms worse. Second, focus on something else - anything that will take your mind off of the panic attack. This could be focusing on your breath, counting backward from 100, or thinking about a happy memory. Lastly, seek professional help if the panic attacks are becoming excessive and impacting your quality of life. A therapist can help you understand the root cause of your anxiety and develop a treatment plan to address it.
