HomeSelf Relationship QuestionsHow do I deal with negative thoughts about myself?
Rila Thomas Staff asked 5 months ago
It was difficult for me to deal with the negative thoughts about myself. Ever since I was a kid, I was bullied and this drastically affected how I saw myself. I would constantly think about how I looked and what people were saying about me. This led to a lot of insecurity and self-doubt.

The first step is to become aware of your thoughts. Once you're aware of the negative thoughts you have about yourself, you can start to question them. Why do you believe these things? Are they really true? Start to challenge your negative thoughts and look for evidence that disproves them. For example, if you think you're not good enough, remind yourself of all the times you've achieved something great. If you think you're not pretty enough, look at all the people who have told you that you are beautiful. It's also important to practice self-compassion. Be gentle with yourself and treat yourself with the same kindness and understanding that you would show to a friend. Remember that everyone makes mistakes and that you are just a human being who is doing the best you can. Also, focus on building up your self-esteem. Spend time doing things that make you feel good about yourself. Surround yourself with positive people who support and appreciate you. Pursue your passions and do things that make you happy. Finally, don't be afraid to seek professional help if you're struggling to deal with your negative thoughts. A therapist can help you understand and change the thought patterns that are causing you distress.
