HomeLong Distance Relationship QuestionsHow can I express that I miss my family without showing that I am sad?
Roy Murray asked 2 months ago

I live in the States while my family is in Japan. This is the first time we've been apart for more than a couple of months and I really miss them. I don't want to seem sad or depressing though, so how can I express that I miss my family without coming across as too negative?

One way to express that you miss your family without sounding too negative is to focus on the positive aspects of your current situation. For example, you could say something like, "I'm really enjoying my time here in the States, but I do miss my family back home. I'm looking forward to seeing them again soon." Alternatively, you could try to find common ground with your family members by talking about things that you're both interested in or sharing stories about your day-to-day lives. Whatever you do, just be sure to avoid sounding too down or pessimistic in your conversation.
