HomeLong Distance Relationship QuestionsHow can I be supportive despite being anxious in a long-distance relationship?
Roy Murray asked 2 months ago

Michael is going away for 3 years to do his master's. We knew this was coming but now that it's actually happening I feel really anxious and scared. I want to be supportive but I don't know how to do that when I'm feeling like this. Can you help me?

Long-distance is tough, but it's also really rewarding. Being supportive of your partner is important and that can be hard to do when you're feeling anxious. I am sure your partner, Michael, is as anxious and scared as you are. The best way to support him is by communicating openly and often. Let him know how you're feeling and what you need from him. Be understanding if he's not able to be as present as you'd like - he's got a lot on his plate right now. Ultimately, just remember that your relationship is worth the effort and you'll get through this tough time together.
