I am often times passed over for projects or opportunities because I am not assertive enough. I really want to speak up for myself, but I'm afraid of sounding rude or bossy. How can I be more assertive in the workplace without coming across as a jerk?
When you're feeling assertive, you should speak with confidence and certainty. This means using strong body language, making eye contact, and speaking clearly. Additionally, you should avoid qualifying your statements with words like "maybe" or "I think." Instead, use phrases like "I know" or "I am certain." Finally, don't be afraid to say "no" when you need to. Remember that you have a right to your own opinion and you don't have to justify it to anyone.
