I was away for college and when I came back, my best friend from high school had changed. She was hanging out with different people and doing things that I didn't approve of. We talked about it and she assured me that she was still the same person, but I didn't believe her. Eventually, we stopped talking altogether.
It is possible for best friends to become strangers. If you have grown apart from someone and no longer share the same interests or values, it's only natural that the friendship would fade. However, it's not impossible for best friends to reconnect if both parties are willing to work at it.
